Founded in 1925 by George Merrick, Coral Gables is one of the largest and most affluent neighborhoods in Miami. Called "The City Beautiful" because of it's tree lined streets, parks, golf courses, ivy-covered mansions, and it's architecturally pleasant and busy shopping district. Built almost exclusively with a Mediterranean Revivalist inspiration, Coral Gables is home to the famed Biltmore Hotel, Merrick House, Venetian Pool, Fairchild Tropical Gardens, and the University of Miami. Waterways meander through much of the Gables which allows boaters easy access to wide open Biscayne Bay. Several Coral Gables communities like Cocoplum, Gables Estates, Old Cutler Bay and Gables By the Sea lie right on the bay itself.
